Sure is windy out there this morning, had a rare occasion and actually got a tailwind at one stage, don't think I've ever seen 40mph on the flat :D It soon bit me on the ass though and turned into a headwind...

Anyone else suffering with wind this morning ?

...solid, blasting, headwind...a bit of shelter...side wind, but mostly headwind. I just hope it don't change direction during the day 'cause I'm hoping to fly home!

Aye the wind was bad in Warrington, loads of fallen debris from trees. I suprised I didn't come off this morning with the wind and hit 3 substantial branches.

I was a girlie this morning, the big tree outside the house was blowing everywhere and I am full of cold so opted for the car. Shame on me I know.

I was fought almost to a total standstill a couple of times on my fixie this morning. Coming up a slight incline off Coventry ring road which I normally fly up, I was out of the saddle, while simultaneously trying to hunker down on the drops, and barely moving!
  • Ow. Me too. Was really looking forward to my first commute of the year this morning... But a combination of ridiculous headwind, the remnants of a chest infection, having to carry a rucksack full of clothes and shoes, and struggling to get used to the new SPD-SL pedals father Christmas brought me (I've always used MTB SPDs before) made it all a bit of a trial.

End result 8 minutes slower than normal this morning over 8 miles - 8 minutes! And now I have to work when all I want to do is lie down and go to sleep...
  • Mine was more of a crosswind, which I was relatively protected from going through central London until I got into Hyde Park, where I had trouble keeping in a straight line!

I hate it when my clock radio comes on in the morning and the weather report says 'blustery'!

Stunning commute thismorning, nice tailwind all the way, still some of the schools off so some of the usual bottlenecks were missing. I’m not looking forwards to the way home. Only problem was I kept running out of gearing on the flat on the single speed, my legs just can’t beat physics.

I kept pace with some ejit on a £3k colagno in full Rapha gear, just what you need commute on/in.

Was a bit gusty for me in north London this morning.

I only realised how bad it was when I had to cycle hard ....downhill  . Hopefully it will blow me up the same hill this evening.
  • I totally wimped out this morning, and used my Moto, although that was a pretty hairy experience!
Out here on the edge of the fens the wind has nothing to stop or slow it, it just blows straight through you :-( not supposed to be any better tomorrow!

Was re-considering the commuting idea when I got up this morning, but glad I overcame my fears. Tailwind all the way in to Leeds, new maximum speed, and fresh legs.

Just need the wind to die down for the homeward trip!

Big head wind this morning. Also had to serve to avoid half a tree that had fallen into the cycle lane and a blocked drain which flooded the road. Not great for the first ride of the New Year!

No doubt the wind will have change direction by this evening and I'll be riding into a head wind again.
    It's all good.

The westerly gave me a magic carpet ride into work this morning - I've seldom seen so much speed for so little effort! I'm sure I will pay for it on the way home!
  • Wasn't too bad this morning...except for a massive gust from the side as a cycled past an office buidling...

It was one of the "ohhhhhhhh.....shiiiiiiittttt" moments as I wobbled...just glad nothing was passing me at the time.

It's times like this that I wish I had a nice slim line frame and wheels...

had a side/tailwind this morning and flew in for the most part... tonight is going to hurt

early part of the week it's ok, when I get more tired as the week progresses it's embarrassing how slow the wind makes me

Wasn't especially windy for me this morning. All I had to worry about was the fact that I've been lazing about for the past 2 weeks eating and drinking like a pig.

Quite windy here down in South London to, glad I only had one of my short commutes today so I only had 2.5 miles of wind to contend with. Even though I was on the drops it still felt like I was riding up a hill and all this whilst trying to avoid being blown off!

I can however now say that the new jacket I picked up off Chain Reaction cycles last week is definitely wind proof :-D

Just hope it doesn't change direction otherwise I might have to take a different route home to avoid the rather exposed main road that I usually use!

    What a ride in.

When I was stopped I could feel the wind on my back, but when I was riding with the wind it was the same speed, so hardly any effort and no breeze at all in my face, windless, it was like being in a hot air ballon.

I was gutted when I got near enough to work to realise my ride was coming to an end, and really just wanted to cycle straight through the City and out the other side and onto the east cost.

It was a different story on the way home though, which was a real sh***er becuase if I ride in to work with the wind in my face, its invariably in my face on the way home as well, but the reverese appears not to happen.

I wimped out on my commute yesterday- far too gusty for my liking!
On it today, but am unsure yet of tomorrows chances.

Windy here in Cornwall too - about 40mph this morning.
Always seems to be a headwind, whichever way you cycle!

Sods law of commuting is that you always cycle into a headwind which then dies down to a gentle breeze before you do the return trip
