£1000 or with black wheel £10110 -
Have you tested any of them? The Zaskar is long, low, XC race whippet.0

I'd second something from Merlin
You get 10% off the prices mentioned above if you don't get finance too

Merlins are quite a bit different to a Zaskar - much shorter and more upright!0

Hi Supersonic.
I really am a complete novice and havn't tried any bikes..I have received limited advice from some friends who have been riding for only a year.I now have a lot of spare time on my hands and have decided to join them.Would it be more advisable to spend less on a bike and more on gear regarding my inexperience? I live on the edge of the Brecon Beacons so this is what I meant by 'my type of riding'.

Being new to the game I would advise trying as many as you can - its also paramount you get the right size. The Zaskar and Raven may feel a bit too nervous and racy, but of course you may love them! Many bikes now built for the 'trails' rather than XC which means a more relaxed, upright riding position and an easier going nature.
Usually spend as much as you can afford, as you do get lighter mopre durable bikes. However its a lot to spend if you dont like the sport, and many 600 quid bikes offer the functinality of a 1000 quid bike, but are just a bit heavier. You need to leav some budget for equipment too.
As a novice I would be looking at a hardtail (no rear suspension, just front) with 100-120mm of travel. The Specialized Rockhoppers are worth trying out, as are the Trek 6500 (and above) and GT Avalanche Expert (the Avalanche is a less racier Zaskar)0 -
Cheers Supersonic,thanks for ur help.0
