Straight after a ride rinse the bladder, tube & mouthpeice out & freeze it.

Maybe once or twice a year (or if it goes manky) Milton it.

    Simple as that.

Putting it in the freezer won't clean it, it just slows down the growth of bacteria so compared to leaving it out it won't be as manky when you next use it. The idea is that even after cleaning there will still be some bacteria in it, freezing it stops them having an orgy before you want to use it again.

To get it completly clean Milton is your friend (just don't get it on your clothes  ).

Personally I only put water in mine so I rinse it and then let it air dry on one of those hanger thingys. Like Andy_B, I give it a dose of Milton once in a while.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • I personally go with Andy B's method of a ost ride rinse and then straight in the freezer, never bothered with Milton as always looks and tastes fresh anyway.
  • i use milton tabs then air dry it
if i dont use it for a while il milton it again a few days b4 hand then air dry once more

This is what i do with my bladder after every ride:

    - Wash with warm soapy water
    - Rinse with cold water
    - Soak in cold water with a Milton Tablet for an hour or so
    - Hang bladder to dry
    - Stick bladder in freezer until next ride

Rinse the bladder out, stick a milton tablet in with some warm water, leave for an hour or so occasionally shaking, then air dry it.

When you are hanging the bladders to dry, do you remove the bite valve or leave it on?
  • i rinse mine out after ech ride and every so often when i have been very lazy and forgotten i'll bung some very warm water in nd a spoon of bicarb, slosh it around and drain out through the tube, then re rinse with cold and leave to dry!
first time i had my bag way back, i forgot about washing it and just filled it every time! until i got half way round one day and took the first mouthfull of what appeared to be fermenting squash! Not good!!!

Empty, dry and straight in the freezer minus the bite valve which gets boiled before and after each ride and left to air dry.
