Its amazing what looking backwards can do, just checking if the misses was ok then oops over the bars i went, thats twice in 3 weeks shes seen me off!!!! the damage was a loud rubbing noise and without to much diagnosis and the misses crying with laughter my wheel lets say a little bent.

Anyway my bikes only 4 months old so i've decided to take it back to Leisurelakes in Bury where i bought it from for my new wheel, they have recommended a Mavic321 rim with DTswiss spokes, i think i'm keeping the original hub my bikes a 2008 GT Avalanche 2.0 disc. They are asking for £42 all in, just wondering if you knowledgable crowd think this will be ok, i do not want to go over the top on cost. For info i'm 6ft and 16 stone.

Cheers Jon

merlin cycles can make a mavic 321 rim with normal spokes (i doubt you'd notice any difference really) on a deore hub for £47. would possibly/probably be better made too.

that isn't too bad a deal from leisure lakes though.

i'd say it was a bit much considering no new hub. i'd try and get em to do it cheaper.
  • TBH that sounds pretty reasonable to me - that isn't a lot to get your steed up and running, £42 for the rim/spokes and labour seems perfectly reasonable to me......

    Why new spokes?

I presume that they can bend as well ? for the cost of the rim and labour i don't think the spokes are that dear.

    32 spokes at 50p each is £16.

i've read you should always use new spokes due to the stress the old ones went through. makes sense to me so i would get new ones
  • Iwas recently quoted for a rear wheel rebuild with existing rim and spokes for £50!£42 sounds quite reasonable, and they,ve reccomended a good rim and spokes.
