Looking at new disc brake rotors. do they need to be the same type as before? Or will any type be ok as long as its the right size?
I've got Hayes So1o brakes. dunno rotor size at this moment in time.
Thanks

It'll be OK as long as it's the right size, but that means the right diameter, the right thickness and the right braking surface depth.

The first is easy, buy the same size as you have. The second doesn't really matter as most mainstream brakes use similar thickness rotors. The last is trickier. You can't for example use Hope mono rotors with Hayes brakes because the pads are bigger.

If you're looking for good, cheap rotors, I've used these Imperial rotors with Hayes brakes and they are excellent http://www.mtb-direct.co.uk/cgi-bin/ind ... 1122100414

I was indeed looking for cheap versions. thanks very much for the link and the info. did not realise there were other items to factor in!
