Which tyre type

I'm buying a new set of tyres. I've decided its time to move on from the old skool Tioga DH tyres i've been running for ages. I'm thinking of getting a set of Maxxis high rollers but I don't know which ply (dual single etc) and what the ply really means. Any help would be useful.

If my riding style effects it I ride DH and free ride stuff mostly and if I'm honest I'm a bit ragged when I ride.

Plys is the number of fabric layers (the stuff that gives a tyre it's strength) and so dual ply tyres are stiffer and heavier but can be run at a lower pressure than single ply because they are much less prone to pinch puncturing.

Given your riding style, I'd go for dual plys. I'd go for a 42a compound on the front and a 60a for the rear. The 42a is stickier and more grippy, whereas the slightly harder 60a rolls better on the rear and lasts a bit better.

    As for sizes, your choice really: 2.35, 2.5 or 2.7 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=4611

I'd stick to the 2.35 width, there is no need for wider tyres unless you are riding at Fort William or some of the tracks in Wales.
