Hi
I'm taking my wife and daughter to the Revolution meeting in Manchester next weekend - a bit of an outing as we are driving up from Southampton for the event.
Never having been before - any advice on when to arrive, park, where to sit to get a good view and other ways of making it a great evening out? I'm really keen my daughter (who is 12 and is really looking forward to it) enjoys the evening.
All advice gratefully received - may be back in next few days asking for any suggestions for hotels nearby!
Many thanks,
Paul.

There is parking available at the venue, or if that is full you can normally use the car park at Asda, next door.. At the last one we got there about 40mins before the start and parked up no problems ( although leaving was a tad chaotic )
Tickets will have a seat number, but the last time I went the stewards were just telling people to sit anywhere, not sure if that's the norm..
Gutted I'm going to miss this one as I would have liked to see Hoy. It's a good night out with a great atmosphere.. Enjoy0 -
I always watch from the railings at either end of the track for some of the races. You get a great sense of the speed and the rush of the wind created past the riders always impresses, not to mention the steepness of the banking!
There are Plenty of places to sit, so the best plans is to have a wander about and try different vantage points. I'm going! Should be a good night!
Enjoy!0 -
I normally get to Manchester for about 5pm. The doors open at 5.30 so gives time to find a seat and to watch warm-up, wonder around, etc.
You can sit where you like - seating is not allocated despite numbers being printed on the tickets as Mog has mentioned. The home straight fills up pretty quickly. Everybody has their own idea of where it’s best to sit - I have a favourite place on the back straight for watching sprint tactics. For your 1st visit, it might be a good idea to get a vantage point where you can see all of the action.
Get tickets in advance if you can, especially if you're driving from Southampton – this is likely to be a very busy event. The post Xmas Revolution meeting last year sold out and people were turned away.
The velodrome website has a page of hotels with distances relative to the velodrome.
See you there!I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.0 -
You will have a great time that is for certain!
I would try and get round the perimeter and watch from a number of positions. You truly have to see the banking for yourself to believe how steep it is.0 -

Thanks for posting this. I hadn't even realised that this was going on, even though I'm only a few miles away. I've just booked my tickets, got my babysitters lined up and will be there next weekend - really looking forward to it. We'll go for a curry in town first - if you and your family like curry, a really good one is East Z East - they have a website http://www.eastzeast.com/ and you absolutely must order a naan bread as it's as big as an elephants ear!!)
Have fun.0 -
Thanks for all the advice so far - my daughter's comment after reading your replies was 'sounds like it will be brill' , which I think is a good thing?
I've just sorted a hotel, bought the tickets from a helpfull lady on the phone on Wednesday, so I think we are pretty much organised.
Popette - I am lucky in having a daughter brought up on exploring the mysteries of Indian cuisine, I'm not sure on timings (eating before or after the event etc.), but a fine curry can be enjoyed at any time, so thanks for the advice.
Oh - this elephant - African or Indian? I think it matters when you come to sizing ears.Chocolate makes your clothes shrink0 -
it certainly matters when you are sizing Naan bread.
I fancied going to the revolution series last year and still do now - reading this thread has reminded me how much! - I couldn't get the missus to come along for love nor money last time and if we have babysitters I kind of want her to be with me so not going alone.
it's my birthday on the 18th - i'll see if I can get her to treat me to some tickets for the two of us...0 -
They are the African elephant of the naan world!
So utterley delicious.0 -
Well, I live only 8 miles away and it is my birthday next week - wonder if I can drag everyone to it...... let you know later........0

It's my birthday next Saturday too and we'll be there.
We usually arrive around 5.30 and have no difficulty parking. Check if Manchester City are playing at home because their ground is opposite the entrance to the velodrome and the main road was closed to allow pedestrians to leave the ground when we arrived a couple of years ago.
Usual practice to to sit anywhere. We have our favourite spot, but there's a good view from all the seats. I usually have a stroll round to stretch my legs at sometime in the evening.
You'll enjoy it. It's a great evening's entertainment. I think Theo Bos and Hoy are going to be there so expect fireworks.

I'm pretty sure that city aren't at home next weekend (or we wouldn't be going watching cycling)0
-
Before anyone points it out, can I just say.....
I am going to watch the cycling, not just to see Girls in Lycra......
Note to self.....Take Camera.....0 -
City are not playing so the overflow car park is available... i.e. quick get away....
Bos and Hoy riding so far.
Suggested it to the kids and my son went 'YEAH....." - daughter of 4 not so sure but showed her pics of the girls riding - was happy girls race bikes.....0 -

Don't be too ashamed The couple we always go with are in their 70s and still ride 5000 miles a year on their tandem. It makes Margaret's evening if Bradley Wiggins is riding - she thinks his bum is lovely Me? I'm hoping Ms Pendleton is going to be there to entertain us with her blistering ... sprint.
You see Lycra works for us all - despite what young Master Parris writes

You are going to have me down as some kind of Deviant.....
This is not good!0 -
I'll be there. Remember to bring a pen for autographs if you are bringing kids.0

I'm going and went to the last one, Twas quality.
If there are lots going maybe we should have a 'Bikeradar forum' meeting point!
I'll be by the hot dog stand most of the night Or sat along the straight on the opposite side to the start / finish line. It's all good.0 -
If you hear a cluster of Midlands accents, that'll proably be the Wolverhampton Wheelers coach trip. I think there's about 50 of us going
Looking forward to it.0 -
For those thinking about going this Saturday, I would seriously call up and prebook your tickets, if there's any left. I've heard that they're pretty much sold out.0
