I think it's good to be stopping cyclists with no lights, though I doubt they could be doing that at 08.20. With sunrise at 08:05 this morning, you wouldn't have legally needed lights after 07:35.

ROFL - they wouldn't have known what had hit them (metaphorically) if they'd stopped you Mikey!
  • I don't think they should be called fascists.

I like, I would guess everyone on this forum make a big effort to have lights that work so I can see and be seen. This morning I saw at least 2 other cyclists with no lights, I will no doubt see others on the way home. There is precious little excuse for riding without lights, the lights themselves are not that expensive, and rechargable batteries make the running costs negligable. This should be seen as a positive campaign, not victimisation.

I am a firm believer in good lights and applaud any action to increase useage. However, I suspect that the police were there to tell cyclists to slow down - that is the norm in RP. As pointed out above, why be checking lights in broad daylight at 0820?

I had my ayup's on my bars yesterday night, and a set on my helmet, no body was missing me riding along the road - 560 lumens should do the trick

Wish they'd do this in Hyde Park.

If I ever come into contact with a twonk who's riding through there at night without any lights on, we're finding out if their bike fits up their a**se, sideways.

BTW, does anybody know if I've got to obey the 20mph limit in Richmond park when I'm on my pushbike?

Yes you do. It's one of the few places where the speed limit does apply to bicycles.

Technically yes, but I don't think many do, I don't I'm afraid as I use the park for some training rides and there really is nowhere else suitable near me.
