Im thinking of getting some new wheels for my road bike (9 speed cassette) rather than buying a new bike but a lot of the wheels i seem to like say they have a hub for a 10 speed cassette. does this actually matter?

is this campag or shimano? not sure if it makes a difference, but I only know the answer for shimano (??)

if the wheel states it is 10speed only then it won't hold a 9speed cassette - however there should be very few wheels that are 10speed specific shimano.

the wheel needs to state 9 / 10speed for you to use it.

    Thanks gkerr4

Its shimano (really should have thought to put that in) which is really frustrating as i was hoping to use the wheels on my next bike which will have a 10 speed cassette

Which wheels were you looking at? AFAIK the only wheels which won't take a 9-speed cassette are '07 model DA and Ultegra wheels with an alu freehub (the new '08 wheels have gone back to the old freehub design with a ti freehub, so will take a 9-speed cassette).

Cheers. I was looking at the Shimano's own Dura Ace or perhaps Fulcrum Racing 3 theyd be a nice upgrade on myt curent wheels - any thoughts?

If you're looking at DA, then I'm fairly sure the 7801 wheels are 10-speed only, whilst the 7850 wheels are 8/9/10. Should also correct myself on Ultegra - they haven't changed for '08 so are still 10-only.

The new DA wheels look nice - one of the few factory wheels I'd consider.
