Cycle Computer Getting Cold
Hi
Went for a ride with a friend of mine Sunday morning, and apart from him braking a spoke (Which cut the ride short ) we both noticed that our computers did not work.
We both have Cat Eye models, and after a few moments riding the buttons did not function, and eventually my screen went totally blank. No speed was showing at any stage, although you could hear the click of the receiver as the wheel turned. I believe that this is due to the cold, and my friend proved this by placing the computer in his airing cupboard, and after a while/it heating back up, the computer function correctly again.
Is this a typical issue/are there any iodeas for avaoiding this problem?
Thanks
Russ

I've had the same problem before. I found that changing the battery in the computer solves the problem. I use a Cateye Micro Wireless, when the battery is low the circled A or B wheel size indicator flashes.0

Yes, I have the same problem on really cold rides with my VDO wireless. It stops registering after about 5 miles, then the handlebar unit goes into sleep mode, I think the battery on the fork sensor struggles in the cold. I have resolved it with a fresh battery but it is a fairly short term fix as the problem returns. I have repositioned the sensor to behind the fork to avoid wind chill, but no improvement. 10 months of the year all is fine, but the only certain fix is probably to get a wired model.0

I've had the same problem with my Cateye Micro Wireless recently. It works for a while if I hold the main unit in my hand to warm it up but stops as it gets colder. Changing the batteries hasn't helped. This is very disappointing if it's a general problem as it happens with mine on cold but not freezing days.
I have just ordered a Garmin Edge 205 to replace the computer so I'll see how that behaves.

VDO sent me a replacement free after the original stopped behaving after a few months (at least it's the pooter they replaced). New one has a little sticky-out bit on the base that's not there on the original. Distance readings are more erratic with this one, my daily commute can be anywhere between 9.5 and 11km.Aspire not to have more, but to be more.0
