Winter Jersey/Jacket: Gore Phantom vs Gore Complete

Hello all.

I'm currently riding in a short sleeved base layer, my Dad's 20 year old bright yellow Bean Bag jersey and a Altura Velocity waterproof (recently bought). Having a bit of spare cash after Christmas I think it’s time to get some proper winter kit to go under the waterproof.

I'm thinking of buying a long sleeved base layer from Wiggle, along with either a Phantom or a Complete jacket. Does anyone have any experience with either product? Is the Complete worth £30 more than the Phantom? Another option would be just to get a long sleeved jersey and wear my Altura over that.

Any advice would be appreciated!

  • I normally find that a windproof jacket and a base layer is all I need even in the depths of winter.

The Gore kit is very good, you may find that the Gore jerseys plus a base layer is OK without the jacket over the top.Gore stuff is very good, but probably only really worth it if you clock up the miles.

Alternatively just buy a £30 DHB jersey from wiggle,or similar and save the rest of the budget for other winter kit.

Evans have some good deals on long-sleeve Gore jerseys at the moment (unfortunately they're out of stock of their £59.99 Phantom jackets :( )

The Tiger thermal is down from £55 to £35, and they also have another down from £50 to £25
