Hello,

New here, used to look at mbuk forum but never seemed to get a reasonable answer!!

I have a Marin palisades trail, upgraded my forks and now looking to do the brakes. Will i notice a difference putting Shimano deore hydraulics on, to the Hayes sole that are already on.

Or would you suggest any others, about £150.00 to spend.

Many thanks ian :D :?

you will notice a lot of difference between Sole's and almost all other hydraulic brakes!

The main reason being that Sole's are single piston (only one piston moves), whereas most other brakes are twin piston (both pistons move).

The Deore is a great brake for the money, others worth looking at include Avid Juicy's & Forumla Oro's,

There is £100 off these Oro's...

Yes like andy has said you will notice a large difference. Hope deore are excellent brakes however for not much more you can get xt brakes. look at merlin for the cheapest shimano prices

  • Thanks for a speedy reply, something i under stud aswell!!

I have looked at that link and considered Avids aswell, the only reason i choose Shimano is my LBS will fit these at the same time as a purchase free!

Are they easy to fit hydraulics because i like the idea of the Formulas and seen some good reviews to them, also like Avids "such choices":lol:

formulas and the current xt (08) are this moments pick of brakes, tbh avids used to be really good, however now the other makes have caught up and in many cases over taken them.

I have never used a shimno disc brake so don't know how they perform.
iirc hayes sole are normally either 'on' or 'off' where as other disc brake systems all peform differently.

For ~150 you could get a pair of avid juicy 5s, or maybe 7s if you looked around for a good deal. And www.merlincycles.co.uk do fantastic offers on sets of disc brakes as do www.chainreactioncycles.com.
  • Great!!

But are they easy to fit

Most disc brakes come ready bled and are generally just an allen key job so not hard. The formulas are apparently very easy to adjust and will be ready to use pretty much out of the box.
