I'm new to all this and would really appreciate some advice on tyre selection. I've got crossride rims and want a pair of tyres of XC and trailriding. I don't downhill and would like to get a good all round tyre...any ideas?

From the reviews I have seen, and the choice I have made for my next winter XC tyres, I would go for Bontrager Mud X. They seem a very good compromise on price and performance.

I don't think you can beat Panaracer Cinder or Fire XC tyres.

Have got Panaracer trailrakers on my stumpy HT for the winter, very pleased with them, good grip and cheap too, from Merlin, £40 for the pair. If you want something a little less winter/mud specific I would go for the Panaracer Cinder, same price fron Merlin

    What size are you after?

I use a set of pana fire xc pros 1.8s, they cut through mud nicley at this time of year and make riding on the roads more berable.

I'm not 100% sure - something like 2.1, though I'd take advice from those that know!!!

Panaracer Fire XC Pro are one of the best all rounder tyres, I use the 2.1 kevlar bead all year round, not the best in gloopy mud, but still a great tyre for most conditions.

Of all the tyres I've owned in 2.1 size I would recommend Panaracer XC Pros, Kenda Nevegal rear/Blue Groove front or Maxxis High Rollers and Ignitors.
