for a Sora caliper on a Trek 1000 SL. Woggle and Porker International and chainsaw reaction don't stock them specifically, only 105, Ultegra and Dura Ace blocks. Do all of these also fit the Sora calipers? If not, what else does other than Sora blocks (which I cannot find).

Ultegra and 105 will fit Sora calipers, no problem.
Maybe DA as well but I haven't tried them so can't be positive on that one.
  • I think caliper blocks are universal so anything will fit.

Caution: Most high end brake blocks are made up of a cassette and a pad, but Sora pads are one-piece. As long as the replacements you buy include the cassette you should be fine (bizarrely, ultegra replacement blocks are one piece despite being cassette/pad config when supplied with ultegra calipers).

NB if you buy high end replacements (ultegra for example) you should notice a big improvement in braking performance - sora pads are a bit naff.....especially in the wet.
  • I've got Ultegra on my summer bike so agree they are better, but then they cost more so you should expect that. A new sora / 105 pad is going to be infinitely better than a completely worn sora one though......

I run Swissstop Flash. They're expensive and good.
I was advised that the diff. between Campag. and Shimano shoes are the length (or poss. thickness) of the bolt.

Anyhow, I'm curious to know if Fibrax pads are any good, and a couple of posters recently said they were good for the money.
12 quid online for their "extreme" pad and shoe inc. delivery seems pretty good value to me:

Didn't they originally make friction linings for the motor industry?
Edit: Just checked the site, and it would appear the stuff is made in Wales - Great - A UK based manufacturing firm!

I got some of the replacement brake pads off CRC. When I got the packet I saw that they were made in Wrexham - a couple of miles from where I live, but CRC are based in N. Ireland, so they travelled a good distance before reaching me.
    I like bikes...
