can anyone give me some info on what cleats and shoe are ok to buy i got a set of shimano pd-m520 pedals for xmass, was'nt sure which cleats to get, ie multiple release or single release, they are for use on a new bike i,m going to but at the end of jan. thinking of buying Tifosi ck audax any feed back would be appreciated

i have m520s on my commute bike.
i have a pair of lakemx81 shoes they have multi release cleats. work perfect togeather,
i also have a pair of diadora chillie extreme for winter tehy have single release cleats. these to work perfect,.
i have another pair of lake101 shoes mainly for mtb they on single release these to work with my m520s,.
so do my lake mxz301 winter boots again mtb shoes for that purpose and sig release cleats. work with my commute bike with m520s....www.bearbackbiking.com

this being my first pair of spd pedals whats the diff between single and multi release cleats.
i know that one comes free whith a straight lift out and the other comes free by twisting your foot, does it matter which one i get0 -
yeah the multi releases if you pull up harsh or slight twist..
the sing only releases with a twist of the heel....
i opted for multi as my first set as i was unsure about spds to be honest they not as bad as everyone makes out,
you hear horror stories about them but you have to be stupid to fall off or not paying attention when stopping...
yeah i had a fewfalls with them mainly on my mtbs useually when something goes wrong emergency stop ect ie hitting a rock bad line choice or dogs running infront of me...
the benefits far out weigh the negatives being clipped in 100% pedal efficiency power gains their acceleration and the ease of bunny hopping grids pot holes or trail deb..

The cleats should of come with the pedals in the box.
As standard with Shimano pedals you get a set of :

I have some shimano shoes with Shimano M324 pedals. These are double sideded - flat one side, cleated on the other;

They come with cleats. They are multi release (so can twist your foot in any direction to unclip)
I got these as I've never used clipless before and thought it would be handy to get the hang of them. To be honest I took to them straight away after a few rides (I was having difficulty trying to clip into them the first couple of times). The only annoying thing is trying to get the pedal to go on the cleated side to clip back in if you've had to stop for some reason. Handy for just nipping out if you've got normal trainers on though - I've only got one bike so it saves faffing with changing shoes.0 -

in the box the 2 pedals are seperated by a carboard center piece, they would of been in a plastic bag under there.0
