Dahon Mu Sl mudguard fitting?

Hi, I have a Dahin Mu SL, which has mudguard holes on the frame, and I have bought a set of Dahon 20 inch mudguards to fit on it. But the mudguards seem to clach with the position of the V brakes - looks as though the bracket which holds the guard to the frame should be about 1 cm longer so the guard is below the brake cable. Any ideas how to get round this?
