I would like to get a GPS but still don't know which one, is interesting the Edge series ones, but only the 605 and 705 has got color screen, and I couldn't find them in internet.
As the eTrex series, I'm between the Legend and the Vista, think so Vista is better, but, which one? the Vista C, or Vista HCx. Is a lot of tec stuff, but the matter is about if is more what?
Thanks!! :D :?

If you go for the Vista, go for the HCx, it's reception of the satellite signals is much better. I've got one and can even get a firm lock in the house sometimes.

I'd recommend the Vista overall, it does everything I wanted it to including acting as a Sat-Nav in the car (as long as you buy a 2Gb memory and TOP GB).
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • The edge 605 and 705 are coming out 1st Quarter, 2008 according to the garmin website: http://www.garmin.com

For the edge 705 you will be loking at about £300+ depending which version you get.

i'm looking at getting one when they come out and can't wait :D

As everywhere is trying to get rid of the old models before the new Gamin hits the shelves you can pick up the Gamin 205 from Halfords and PC world for £89.00
  • I use an Edge 305.
It's not all that good as a navigation device, it only gives your location in Lat/Long, not OS grid reference, but then it's sold as a training aid.
I wouldn't want to use it to find my way somewhere, but it's fun to transfer the route on to Google Earth after I've got back and see where I've been.
Here's an example of what it can do with several routes in different colours.

That screen shot is from a third party website for transferring GPS data on to Google Earth. Since then I have downloaded the latest Garmin update and can do it straight from the Garmin Training Centre in a slightly different format.

    Unfortunately, my bike's an atheist.
  • Incidently, the small gaps in the red line, top centre, are where it lost the signal.
For densely wooded single track, I think that's pretty good.

  • Thanks guys!!! :D:D
Now I've got the idea what to get!!

The EDGE series are training aids with limited GPS, there are compatibility issues with other software as they do don use OS references, and use course (CRS) and History (HST) files opposed to standard tracks and routes which GPS systems use universally.

If you want to train then this is fine, but their GPS navigation is limited.

If you intend to download your routes, and use sites such as "Bikely" etc or link into a system such as Memory Map, Anquet etc then you will need to convert files form the EDGEvia a third party to a GPS Exchange file (GPX) or to Google.

I have an Edge 305 for commuting and training, but use my Garmin Foretrex or Etrex when touring or leisure riding
