I have just purchased a Centaur Ultra Torque chainset and BB cups.

Fitting seems rather easy, the only question i have is Do i need to grease the threads of the BB cups before fitting them?

They have some blue stuff half way down the thread which i can only assume is some kind of thread lock, but i could be wrong.

    What do the instructions say?

  • No instuctions with the BB cups, they just come in a campag bag.

Trying to find the info on the Campag site but no luck so far.

I'll try Sheldon Brown see if he has the answer for me.

All the fitting instructions for Campag components can be found as pdfs on the Campag website.

    I probably would..

If you ever want to take them out, threadlock is one thing, but corrosion set BB cups are an altogether bigger problem!

Also - did you get the carbon centaur chaniset? - and if so, whats it like?

If it's an Italian thread I wouldn't normally but the design of the outboard bearing cups means the 'fixed' side can't even try to migrate in to the frame....therefore I don't think it matters.
I'd rather walk than use Shimano

I had one of the cups work loose on my bike. It had been fitted by the shop where I bought the bike and I dont think they had tightened it properly. (They dont sell a lot of Campag!!)

I would recommend making sure it is torqued up to the correct setting. I cant remember this off hand but it is available on the campag website.

    Good luck
  • Gkerr4 - no, i got the aluminium version, they did'nt have stock of the new Carbon ones, i am jusr trying out the new fangled system to see if i get on with it, if so i will get the Carbon Centaur for the summer bike.

I will get the destructions from the campag site, i have borrowed a torque wrench (motor vehicle version) so i am hoping that the Instructions also have torque settings as well.

Thanks for all the reply's and a happy new year to yo all, i'm going to go to the shed now and fit some new bits......

I run the carbon version but as its my first bike in quite a few years I've not really got anything to gauge it against! It looks nice!
