Hi

I need help with Shimano Shoe/boot sizes, I am looking to purchase a pair of Shimano MW02 winter boots BUT when checking out the usual best places to buy at the cheapest prices (i.e Wiggle, Chain reaction etc) they only have EU sizes.

I am a UK size 8, BUT the sites only list EU sizes! not a problem as UK 8 translates to EU 42 OR 42.5 (42.5 I think is a little bigger size 8, or a wider size 8?).

However on the Wiggle site there is a size converter and a UK 8 shows as a EU 43 ???
is this a mistake on wiggles site or are Shimano shoes sized differently?

If anybody has a pair of Shimano shoes (any shoes) or even better a pair of Shimano MW02 Winter boots and they normally take a size UK 8 shoe please could you tell me what size they are in EU

Cheers

I'm a 8.5 UK, which means a 43 usually. But with Shimano I need a 44. Based on this I think Shimano are on the small side, so order one size larger than you think you need.

Shimano shoes tend to be on the small side for UK fitting and are not very wide.

I take a size 11 shoe in UK size but have size 47 Shimano shoe, most people will tell you that you need to go up a shoe size with Shimano.

Shoes are not ideal to purchase on line unless you are buying the same as you are already using, its only when you try them on, see how much padding they have (sometimes less is better) , how much protection they offer, are they comfy and do they look well made.

Not all of us have one of the big bike shops like Evan’s round the corner where you can try a few different pairs, but its worth travelling to make sure you get the correct shoe.

I'm usually a size 9 and have two pairs of Shimano shoes in size 44. Both fit perfectly well.

BTW - I can heartily recommend their MT90 boots for winter use - they're the ones which look like walking boots.

    Not Shimano but Specialised....

I am usually an 8 1/2 and went for size 43. Fits me perfectly (I can even - just - get a pair of sealskinz thermal socks inside but that is a tight fit). however, I think if ou have wide feet they wouldn't fit!

Bottom line.. try em if you can, otherwise (ordering online) you can always send them back for a slightly bigger pair... no biggie

Just to add, I;ve ordred all of my kit on line and everything has fitted (I'm a pretty standard size I reckon). The only thing that didnt was a pair of gloves in medium (supposedly the correct size using sizing charts), so I gave them to my son and bought a new pair at the LBS. Next pair I learnt from this and ordered a size bigger (L) and they were spot on.

Reputable dealers have no issue with returning changing items. In fact, from vague memory, isn't this the law if you buy 'sight unseen' even with somewhere like Argos which is why thay have to offer the 14 day return policy. Which reminds me.... got to take the Christmas tree back soon ......... just kidding

I've just bought a pair of MW02s. I usually take a 9 / 10 and ended up with the MW02s in a 45. I'm lucky as my LBS had different sizes in stock so I chose those after trying them. I think you need to err on the large size, particulalry as they are winter boots and you'll want thicker socks to keep your feet toastie :D

I recall reading somewhere that Northern European-type people have wider feet than average and that Shimano shoes are not designed to accomodate this. Hence, they are usually a bit tight.

I'm usually a 44.5 or 45 but have size 46 Shimano shoes and I wear them with the bottom strap loose.
  • Many Thanks to you all for the help and advise, think I will go for the 43.5s as I'm in between Uk7.5s and 8's

Now just gotta make my mind up whether to buy a Workstand or new waterproof gloves and new eye protection with the rest of my Christmas money??

Christmas money, easy come and christmas money easy go!!!

Happy new year to you all

Buy the workstand, you'll find the money later in the year for gloves and glasses when you get really pissed off but you'll put up with struggling when fettling if you don't buy a stand.

I used this logic and got new boots for Christmas, just ordered a bleed kit and gear cables from Wiggle out of my 'normal' money, hehehehehe :D:D

  • bleed kit is on my list as well, as for the stand, I will have to put a tenner towards that too

But hey what the missus doesn't know, the missus doesn't have to know
