the left shifters are double or tripple, friendof mine had a restricted tripple (found this out when he brokethe shifterand took it to the bike shopthat said they had seen a fair few broken tripples that had been restricted on giant bikes

    Which model of Ultegra ?

10sp Ultegras have two versions, ST-6600 for doubles and a separate, different version ST-6603 for triples

The corresponding ST-5500's for 105 will do both and so would 9sp Ultegra : I've recently fitted 9sp Ultegras to my Winter bike - they came off a friend's double and are now working fine on my triple : they have extra clicks he'd never seen.
    These are ST-6510's - I think the earlier 9sp ST-6500's were double- or triple-specific

    Thanks for the info guys,

I was planning on getting a Trek madone with a triple and swopping the chainset to a double from a triple......but I've got myself a Pinarello with a double now!
