Does anyone have one of these?

My LBS has one of these at a price difficult to resist. I've got the money, but wasn't planning on getting a new bike until the weather begins to improve.

I think they only have the Disco team colours, which is a bit disappointing. I was planning on getting a Campag equipped Bianchi for £100 less, but obviously this is worlds apart in styling. But I think the frame is a far better one on the Trek, and I've heard good reviews about the Treks - and this really tempts me. However the disco paint scheme puts me off slightly - I think if they had the red scheme on the shop floor I'd already be an owner after my visit at the weekend.

Does anyone have one of these? I'm guessing the SL stands for "super light" but how light are they (54cm)?

An Ultegra/Dura ace mix on a trek frame for £1400 seems excellent to me, any opinions out there?

No experience of it but certainly agree with you about the livery. A bit naff looking to say the least. Seems well equipped though and at £1400... Bit of a bargain.

I hadn't really considered Trek but I do keep having a glance at the new 5.2 Madone which I think looks quite smart but thats £2300, £400 more than the Izoard I've kind of got my heart set on.

I think the new madone looks smart with the new style seat post/mast, but it's out of my price range aswell.

To me that looks as good as any other bike from any other manufacturer. Shame it only comes with Shimano. (Though will Astana using SRAM Red will bikes be available with SRAM?)

To answer myself, the 5.5 Pro comes with Force.

Reddregon, that is a very nice bike for £1,400 but are you buying it becuase it's the bike you want or are you buying it because it seems to be a bargain.

There are lots of good bikes about for £1,400. If it was my money I'd look around for a Scott CR1 pro which you should be able to get for your budget. Some nice Wiliers about as well for that money.

I agree. It's only a bargain if it's the one you wanted anyway. There are a lot of offers around at the moment. I like the Look range

At my budget, I'm going to have to compromise, no matter how much I look I doubt I'm going to find a carbon framed record equipped bike for £1400.

I'm not buying a bike off the net, and there are no Scott Dealers within a short distance from me, so I'm rather limited.

The Trek ticks most of my boxes. My only other real option is a Centaur equipped Al framed (by all accounts heavy) Bianchi.

no disrespect - but that model is pretty much "old hat" now - it has been replaced by the new sloping geometry madone in two different 'fits' - where the old model is very racy in it's geometry. I am sure its still a decent frame, but it looks like a pain to spend any time on unless you are a professional athlete (you're not - are you?)

I can see why the shop are discounting it so much - it must be a struggle to sell the old madone as the new one is such a cracking looking bike. - If I were you, I'd go for the bike you wanted in the first place as I think if you bought this bike it would always be seen as a "bargain" in your mind and not the bike you want..

oh also - if you really must have an ultegra equipped bike for £1400 with a racy geometry - get over the whole "not buying a bike onlin" thing and get a focus cayo - an ultegra SL equipped carbon bike with enough money left over for a decent set of wheels to be added too!

£1400 at wiggle gets you into fantastic spec bikes - dura-ace and an all carbon frame...

    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360032365&n=Focus%20Cayo%20Expert%202008

Wiggle still do a 7 day trial or refund on Focus bikes which is very trusting on their part and in effect lets you try the products on approval. This is a risk free purchase if the spec and sizing appeal.

I bought a Focus bike (not the Cayo) recently.
The moment I first caught site of it in the box I knew in my mind it wouldn't be going back

Wiggle were very slick to deal with.
I don't feel guilty as I spread my purchases around conventional bike shops too.
  • Sound advice from dcj IMHO. I'd got for the Focus every time.

Plus, you know who else rides a Trek...

Alas, I have purchased a new bike now.

Went in the shop to have a look again at the Treks. And this time I noticed the Specialized Tarmac elite from last year for £1700 and the Pinarello F3:13s for £1600.

I decided on the Pinarello in blue in the end, paid the deposit and will pick it up when I can get my money out of the building society.

The Trek just looked plain next to it.

Now, that's what I call a good choice. I spent months drooling over Pinarellos and couldn't decide which one to get. In the finish I went the whole hog and got the Prince.

    There's something about Pinarellos . . .

Now if I was going off the picture I wouldn't have bought it. It looks so much better physically than as a JPEG.

    I disagree. It looks lovely.

I'd stick a picture of my Prince up if I knew how to do it

The Prince is a fine bike. There was one in the LBS, but at £5250 it was about £4000 above my budget.
