I will be doing this one. I went to Uni in Huddersfield a few years back.
Four whole years playing on the Playstation. Those were the days!
Should be good!0 -
A great new course - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Ki ... e-Sportive. Looks to include Wessenden Head, Holme Moss, Victoria, Emley Moor as well as the Lancashire climbs around Delph, Marsden. It's climb, climb, climb. I'm definitely riding this one. Again this is a classic linking cross pennine, Holmfirth, Emley circuits.0

If you go calling Delph 'Lancashire' you'll upset a whole lot of people in Saddleworth !0

Sorry. But Delph is over the pennines isn't it? It's quite close to Oldham. There's a long climb up to the Isle of Sky. Anyway it's a great little town, very attractive stone buildings, always bustling with people and tourists. We stopped at a cafe there on the corner which was linked to an art centre. When I'm talking about pennines to people I always mention it as a top attraction.0 -
S'alright Michuel, I'm originally from Lancashire so it doesn't bother me !
I'm from just over the hill from Delph and have various relatives in Delph, Denshaw, Dobcross, etc.
They see themselves very definitely as 'Yorkshire' - if you were to go into a pub in Saddleworth and ask if it's part of Lancashire they'd probably put you into a wicker man and burn you or something.
It used to be in the West Riding before the boundary reorganisations in 1971 when it became part of Oldham Metropolitan Borough and was moved into Greater Manchester, but as far as they're concerned, it's Yorkshire through-and-through.
Although, because it's on the other side of the Pennines (I won't say it's on the right side or the wrong side ), most folk in Yorkshire 'proper' aren't really aware of it...0 -
My Brother was born in Delph when Dad was the village copper there for the old West Riding Constabulary. The Boundary Commission change doesn't stop him from calling himself a Yorkshireman, just as I suspect will be the case with a few people from Middlesbrough who have had more changes.0
-
Oh I agree Bob, that's why I said I'm from Lancashire, even though where I was born and brought-up has been in Gtr Manchester for 37 years...0

on line entry now working!0

Entered!
Sweet! See you there!0 -
Just looked at the route; be warned it's non stop hills. Even the bits between the major climbs are very lumpy (and often surprisingly steep).
Well done on the route planning - you've managed to circumnavigate Huddersfield without touching any really built up areas and taking in some fabulous countryside. It avoids all the busy areas we went through last year.
The start over Buckstones is a great idea - a nice steady long climb to get everyone "tuned up". I regularly commute this route and its my favourite.
A great training event for the Etape du Dales. Given a route like this it may become a classic in its own right in the future. Hope and plan to be there.0 -
On line entry has brought more riders already than last year's ride, with under 2 months to the start date.
new HQ, revised route, mechanical support and no doubt the review in C+ will have all helped improve this early season leg stretcher.
"It deserves to be a classic" said C+
We are working on marshals for directional aid, and considerring a sag wagon.
If you start to fade there are plenty of routes back to the start, or to miss a section out and vow to come back next year.0 -
I signed up for this last week but have had any kind of reply. Should I have done???
I looked hard at it last year, saw it as an opportunity to go see my mum as well but then did n't quite get round to it. Picked up my first copy of C+ for ages on saturaday and could n't believ emy eyes with a full profile.
Cheers,
David0
