Sorry for the double post.
Hi guys, sorry if this has been covered before but my mate was round yesterday and he tells me that flashing rears are illegal.
I've 2 BBBs on and when I bought them the guy said they were o.k now...can you settle this please?

    Yes they are legal now.

Been legal since october 05 as long as they flash between 60-240 times a minute, tell your mate to get up to date on road laws :D

I use one flasher to help people "notice" me and identify me as a cyclist and one steady led so people can judge where I am better (flashing lights can be hard for people to get a fix on exactly where you are).
  • It's not as straight forward as you think - flashers are legal provided they meet minimum standards - see this link from the DFT

It is now perfectly legal to use flashing light on your bike as per the enactment of Statutory Instrument 2005 No. 2559.
Please see the link below for evidence (under the section "Flashers")

    Checkout 'Reelites'.

Legal, so use as the 'primary light'

Flashing, power generated purely thro magnets on the spokes. So, no batteries. Always working.
  • Thanks guys.
