Overshoe sizing?

I know the safest bet is to go to a bikeshop and try my shoes with them but can overshoes be bought fairly safely via mail order?

I use Spesh BG MTB shoes (Comp & Expert) and I'm looking at some Gore MTB III overshoes.

My shoe size is 44. Do you buy the overshoe of the matching size to your shoe or go up a size to facilitate the shoe?

Its just my luck that the sizing is 42-44 and 45-47 to complicate matters a bit.

I take the same shoe size as yourself, my shoes are mountain bike spd type and I ended up with plannet x Extra Large and they only just fit. Lots of the overshoes seem to be made fore race shoes.

I've had problems buying overshoes. A pair from decathlon which should have fit my shoes were no where near big enough. I then got a pair of Pearl Izumi they were a good fit over my shoes but the holes for my shoe plates were in the wrong place. I ended up with a pair of Assos.

Pot luck with these things by mail order. I have a pair which are supposed to fit my shoes plus another two sizes up but they are a hell of a job to get on, although a bit better now they've stretched.

Personally, I think all clothing sizes are guesswork. No two manufacturers seem to agree on what a certain size should actually be. I never advise anyone to buy clothing over the net, though I have to admit to occassionaly being unable to resist an online bargain.

    Thanks for the replies.

I've not had any bother buying the likes of jerseys, shorts and bib longs online but anything foot related I'm scepticle about.
I did actually buy my Spesh Expert shoes online but only after after wearing the same size Comps for the thick end of a year - and they were unmissable baragain.

I've just had a check and found that Edinburgh Bike actually have the Gore III's four pence cheaper than Wiggle so I'll probably shoot up to the Newcastle store with my shoes.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas :)
