  • I've been riding with a head lamp attach to the bar, and works well at nigth. The energizer with 4 wite leds and 2 red ones. Because is not very ''bumpy'' the trail, it makes the job and cheap (like £20)
    Give a smile, is free!!!
  • Cheers for that
  • I had an Electron set before I upgraded to Ay Up.
In your price range and adequate for night time off roading.

    Unfortunately, my bike's an atheist.
  • the electron is a sweet light

Try the Cateye EL530, there only 35 quid.

I use that set, Electron EHP 315, good lightset for the money.

Is the cateye el 530 good enough to ride trails at night ????
  • I had a set of Electron EHP 315.Very good light for the money.

I would also look at the Fenix L2D,which has amazing performance given its size.Ideal as a helmet light.

Have a look at the Fenix L2D. Its a £40 led torch that runs on 2 aa's. Pumps out over 2 hrs or 180 lumen light with a decent set of rechargeables. Very popular with the cycling community.

Being a cheap git, I bought 2 of these instead:

Came within 10 days. Ordered with 8 rechargable CR123a's and a charger. £40 all in. Very bright. They have a tight spot light and a large spill area - I have one pointing to the road ahead, then one pointing closer to me to give more illumination to the more techincal bits. Might try one on my helmet. Run time i cant confirm yet because the kids keep messing with them. Guessing 1 hr 30 mins. carrying a spare set of batteries is hardly a weight penalty though.

How do you attach it to your bike I hear you cry? Well you can buy some Twofish Bike Blocks (bit expensive for what they are IMO), or do what I did. Aldi have packs of hose clips for £2. Big one on your handlebar with a rubber strip, the 2 smaller ones through it. Insert torch, tighten it up, hey presto, £42 for a rather good bike light.

Will be posting a few pics to demonstrate soon.

I have both the Electron set ( on MTB ) and EL530 on the road bike, I certainly wouldn't want to use the EL530 on trails, it's fine on the road and gets you seen, but does bugger all when lighting up the way ahead... The Electron set is far better for that.....

    Ben?

In the case of the Electron EHP 315s it fits in a bottle cage.
