attaching new fork advice

i bought some new argyles to attach to my bike but it comes with no thing that fits in the steerer tube to screw the stem in to, should it have? or is it possible to take that out of an old fork?

    think u mean star nut, it would be safer to buy a new one theyre only buttons.

    thanks, u just slot it in and they stay? and do you know if argyle 302s are just 11/8" size

    yes argyles are 1 1/8" i would go to an LBS and let them fit it for you, no offence you don't sound like you know much about this type of thing so i would play safe and go to an LBS.
