Well yesterday was the last day of commuting in 2007 for me.

Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year. Here's to 2008 and some warmer days...

All the best...

And to you mate, as well as everyone on here!
  • Merry Christmas all

couple of amusing stories for you

    1) Temporary traffic lights, outside Lords. Been red a long time and nothing coming the other way. Waiting with another cyclist and a motorbike despatch rider. Then a big truck comes through, trucker shouts out as he passes "It's red both ways lads". Us 2-wheeled types hear this and cycle through, but the car drivers don't hear it. We ride off into the distance chuckling, leaving an ever-growing queue in both directions at the permanently red lights. Bet that took some time to sort out ;)

    2) Outside Bank last night. City is absolutely heaving with demob happy bankers. One banker in his suit & overcoat strolls over to another despatch rider sat at the lights and proceeds to climb on the bike pillion, feet on the pegs, arms round the biker and nonchalanlty waits for the lights to turn green. I was pi55ing myself laughing. Sadly the biker turned round and had a quiet word in the shell-like, and the banker dismounted sharpish. I presume the message was along the lines of "If you don't get off my bike in the next 2 seconds I am going to smash your face in". Happy days :)

My last commute will be home this afternoon (we're knocking off at lunch time). I've had some sort of near miss or minor incident on the way home pretty much every day since last Friday. I can't wait to get this last commute (safely) out of the way and then have a week off to recharge my batteries.

I'm guessing the roads are going to be a bit mental everywhere this afternoon and this evening, so stay safe folks! Merry Christmas.

Im still going to be commuting on Monday but its only a half day, I think Im gonna strip off the panniers and guards etc and run the bike in light weight spec :D its been ages since Ive ridden the bike without carrying a ton and a half of crap with me, will be good to remember why I got a lightweight bike  Quiet Roads, part day at work and no baggage, should be like that every day.

Now do I carry a tube and co2 kit? or do I brave going without :?:
  • My last day today too, until the 31st. Tomorrow I'll be into the cage, and down to my folks in Yorkshire. Hoping to get a ride with my Dad during the week, to keep the legs turning over, but I suspect I may end up needing to ride his old (10+ years) Dahon, which might be an experience!

I'm taking my bike over to my Dad's on Boxing Day, so we should be out for a ride sometime after that. The threat of going out for a ride with me has had him in training for the last few weeks

Sods law, you can guarantee that the one day you go without a spare, you'll get a puncture.... :D

Colleague gave me a very nice bottle of German wine, which is sitting on my desk, do I start the celerations early? :-D better not have to ride home.

  • Merry xmas one and all! I had my last commute of 2007 on Wednesday; it was our xmas lunch on Thurs and sure enough it ended in me stumbling home drunk, hence proving my theory that leaving the bike at home was a good call...I'd booked off Friday in anticipation.

Just off to meet my mate in central London (not quite sure what she is thinking so close to xmas) as she has a present for my bday...I've been told not to cycle so I can carry the stuff home?! Not sure whether she doesn't understand the concept of panniers or whether it's just not possible to carry whatever it is on a bike!

And I wanted to cycle too, I've just spent my bday money on cycle clothing from Minx which arrived yesterday...
  • i am workin over xmas and the new year, so my last commute of 2007 will be new yrs eve.

Have a great christmas all and have a good 2008
