rear mech problems

my rear mech wont change into gear 8, but shifts through the others fine what should i do?

Assuming you have an 8 speed cassette? I don't know if you mean the smallest or largest cog but whichever it is, maybe the limit screws need adjusting. With the chain removed does the mech line up with the 8th cog when you shift into 8th gear?

Need more info! HAs it ever shifted into this gear? Might need limit screws adjusting or else the cable tension may be off.......

I had a similar problem a few weeks back on a 9 speed cassette. Symptom was that in the middle front ring, would not change from 7 to 8, but would go to 9 OK. I checked the limits and they were fine. So I retensioned (let the tension off a little at the lowest point and screwed out the barell adjuster a little - as there was no adjustment one way before) the cable. Re-set tension (indexing) with the adjuster a little and all was fine.
