Had a ride out this morning and had to stop on numerous occasions to clear the mud from my tyres, frame, front mech and everywhere else!!!!

I'm currently riding on Schwalbe Smart Sams (2.25) which is very tight in my frame. I'm considering dropping down to 2.1 and buying mud specific tyres, any suggestions? Currently looking at Maxxis Swampthings!
Currently riding - Lapierre Zesty 314, as yet without any bling

Not sure if swampthings are available in 2.1s but Maxxis do a mud tyre called a Medusa which definately is. It won't grip in wet mud as well as a Trailraker but is a better all rounder.

  • All Terrain Cycles list a Swampthing in 2.1. Does the Medusa clear well, the mud where I ride is soooooo sticky!

If you are to get the medusa get the softer compound as the harder one doesnt grip very well. I have got the medusa my self and it seems to be an alright tyre so far . But what is your budget for your tyres bvecause the diference between an expensve tyre and a cheap tyre performance wise is huge.
  • I've made an investment in the Swampthings, which will hopefully arrive before Christmas!! They were only £13 each so pretty cheap!!! Will consider the Medusas if the Swampys are no good (good review in a recent MBUK though)

Not sure what compound they are, at that price I can't really complain!
