Hi, wondering if anyone has used these wheels and what they think of them, they seem to be Mavics least expensive UST wheel set, any thoughts good and bad would be appreciated. I am thinking of making the move to UST after an unsuccessful Stans no tubes incidient and my constant pinch punctures!! :D

I've had some for 3 years. They're not the lightest and they achieve UST by having proprietry yellow rim strip rather than a solid inner rim but the bearings and freewheel are the same as the more expensive wheels.

  • thanks for the reply, thought this post would drop without a trace! the rim strip i take it does just as good a job as a sealed rim bed? and what tyres are they good for width wise?, i normally run around a maxxis / panaracer 2.35 ish.

Yeah they do as good a job at holding in the air, although there is a very small weight penalty. They will handle 2.2 -2.35 tyres no problem at all.

Personally, I'd look at something like XM819 rims on Shimano XT hubs with DT comp spokes. Stronger, just as light and much easier to true/repair.

i have the mavic crosland & mine have the solid filled rim type.
  • picked up a pair today, ex shop display for £90 all in!! they seem great value, these come with the yellow rim strip and valve however these are missing and the shop have assured me they will get them by Jan, they are a Mavic registered supplier so should have no probs, initial impressions seem good, good looking and reasonable weight, have a wider profile than my current rims (DT455's) so should plump up my tyres a bit more. We will see. Thanks for the responses guys. :D
