Hello, i bought a targa bike about 1 and abit years ago, its full suspension with front disc brake & rear v brake, the bike is imaculate ive used it 5 times i think!!

im looking to start using it again, its very comfy to ride, but i have seen people jumping down stairs and doing jumps and i interested will this bike hold up? ive never tryed anything like this on it...

i have funds but cant really see me spending more than £350 on a bike what bike would you recommend for this type of riding? i would also do the odd down hill bit of riding like off road stuff and that

any help please.

I am assuming this isnt a Wah!
Never really heard of a Targa Because of that I it wil most certainly stand up to abuse. Just not for very long! (i give it five big landings!)
Get yourself a £350 hardtail from one of the recognised manufacturers. they will survive better and you will learn skills faster on it. As for jumping downsatirs that is a little beyond where i think your skill envelope may be! take your time and dont be put off when you fall off. because you will.
I never touched it! It was broke when I got here.
  • ive got a trek 4300 as a hardtail but if you look at the giant stp's they are good little street bikes and good for jumping also specialized hardrock are pretty standard hardtail's

Sorry to hi-jack the thread slightly, but I have one of these and wondered if anyone has use one for 'proper' MTBing? It has been used for commuting and a few day trips over pretty rough ground and taken it well.

The frame seems solid enough, what other parts will need upgrading, if any?

I do all my off roading on a 06 Hardrock. If you want to go off road regularly you will want a new set of forks. The stock forks are strong enough to go off road but they completely useless at absorbing bumps.

If they weren't disc specific I'd already have ordered myself a set.

    Cool!

Oh, how much is a decent set of wheels for this bike?

They are OK at the moment but I imagine some proper off roading would soon see off the stock wheels?

Or do they just need re-truing every now and then?

  • Wheels are about £100 a pair but the stock wheels seem to be fine. I haven't had any trouble with them although I haven't really pushed them.

i have been riding my hardrock for nearly two years now.

I still haven't gotten round to upgrading the forks, and have only really bought new pedals (dmr v8's), new disc brake pads (OK a couple of new sets) and new brake and gear cables.

I would say I have given it some abuse.....Black and Red runs at glentress, Carron valley, Innerleithen, only really a few seconds slower than my mates on v.expensive 6"plus travel fs bikes (One Santa Cruz nomad i think, a couple of Patriots and a Five)

Everybody says the rst are crap, but to be honest, unless you are going mahoosive, they will be fine for a while. Mine only really need replacing now.

    Get the disc version.

    Great Bike

  • ive got 3 hardrocks in my house and would say 2 have taken a bit of abuse, (mine and my boys), the only thing i changed on mine were the pedals. i dont think i have even bottomed the forks out, mines are marzocchi though all in all i think they are good starter bikes.

  • My girlfriend rides a 99 Hardrock which is still going strong. She's even taken it over the jumps at Dalby.
If you're thinking about a new Hardrock the review on here recommends shelling out the extra £50 for the Hardrock Sprt Disc. Sound advice too.
