Does Howies really exist??

Over the past 10 months I have placed 3 orders via the internet with Howies and one more recently for a Howies base layer from Wiggle. I have heard absolutely nothing about the first 3 orders and Wiggle tell me that the supplier cannot provide the base layer. I am beginning to wonder whether Howies might be a figment of our imagination.

  • Howies are amazing and in my experience have the best customer service of any company I've ever used. Have you tried emailing Ade at Howies, he always replies when contacted even if it's one of my insane suggestions?
You hear that? He's up there... mewing in the nerve centre of his evil empire. A ground rent increase here, a tax dodge there? he sticks his leg in the air, laughs his cat laugh... and dives back down to grooming his balls!

Yes they do really exist, I was in the new shop on Carnaby Street last weekend :D

Cut out Wiggle and go direct......
  • Wow, they have a store in London now?!

I will have to check that out. Is it good for cycling stuff or is it the more generic stuff they have a lot of stock of?

Jeans, T-shirts, Trainers, Jackets and Jumpers, to be honest it's the stuff that appeals to the passer by on the street. Nice stuff though, even if it is a little pricey, I do like the whole 'Howies' attitude and what they stand for......

i find their website orders patchy, i've ordered stuff in their sales and it's been out of stock, except that noone told me, after a week of waiting for my order i rang them and they sorted everything out for me explaining that one item was out of stock. So, if you're ordering direct (especially sale stuff) i'd give them a ring to make sure your order goes through properly
  • I love Howies stuff, but they are definitely patchy with their internet/phone orders, or at least they were up to last year when i last got something from them. They were always very nice when i called up to complain - they even suggested that stuff was getting nicked from their local royal mail sorting office. It was particularly annoying 2 Christmas's ago when i didn't get stuff I ordered as presents in time, despite ordering well in advance.

I've stuck with them because they seem such a likeable company, but from my experience (and others I know who have bought their kit) you have to have a bit of patience with them.

I suspect with Timberland's marketing cash behind them, but still (for now) operating out of a shed in Cardigan this might get worse in the short term. However, for them to have a shiny new warehouse off the M42 despatching the stuff efficiently kinda defeats the whole object of Howies.

Mind you, one could arguw that selling out to Timberland does just that anyway but that's an argument for another day.

I bought a new merino wool jersey from them recently and they were very efficient. I guess you must be unlucky!
  • I buy loads from them and they are always grand. Wish their marketing was a bit less "we are all mateys and you are our friend and we exist only for the good of the planet etc". Bit like Jamie Oliver before he got tired, but the quality is really good.

No its like the more large website, that constantly seems to be "under construction" too, and then when you do find it working, you can't buy anything from it?!?!?

why then do future publishing (or at least WMB and MBUK) always say go there?!

bit of a mixed response although the satisfied customers just edge it. Perhaps I will give them another chance. I went to Wiggle because of the lack of response from Howies and because in my experience they are the best online store I have come across.
