Disc brake problem

Hi,
I have just been given a second hand Giant Terrago. I think it is about three years old as it has a V bralke rear brake and a disc font. It has obviously been upgraded as it has an XTR rear mech and a deore front brake, with disc compatible wheels front and back.
I noticed quite a bit of rub on the front brake. Investigation showed that it was running a 165mm rotor instaed of the required 160mm. I have changed the rotor but i now have two problems:
1. The rotor seems to sit tighter against the left hand pad than the right hand pad and slightly rubs when rotated. :?:
2. The brake levers feel too squidgy and it takes several pumps to actuate the brakes. The braking is very inefficient. :?:
Interestingly the Diatech hub which had the 165mm rotor on it was not compatible with the bolt pattern for the shimano 160mm (or henc the hope type from my other bike). This meant that my son dipped in again as I gave him my XT hubbed wheel from my bike ( Ok so it gave me an excuse to run with a Crossland!)
I am not familiar with this type of shimano brake system and any advice really would be most welcome as I'm trying to sort it in time for Santa!
Cheers Guys

So what are you asking?
if the hub is a 6 bolt patteren then they are all interchangeable.
the other type are the shimano splined patteren.
re the pads rubbing you need to re aligne the caliper.
add or remove shims from between the fork and the caliper or if post mount and adaptor slacken the bolts holding the caliper and re set it.
More info needed as there are lots ov variations of parts etc. Photos are always good.
and have a look at the brake sticky above and the info in the FAQ's"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yes as post above slacken the calliper holding bolts, pull the brake lever and hold while tightening the holding bolts.
The other problem could be the brake has air in and requires bleeding.0 -
Thanks for the advice.
Pleaes note that the 165mm is also a 6 bolt pattern. This is why I was somewhat confused that the two rotors have diferent bolt spacing. :?
I will attach photos later in the week when I return from working away.
Cheers and speak later.

the six bolt pateren has not changed for a very very long time and has had a standard layout since 2000."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
