help fitting a qr skewer on to my bike

i have got a dmr trailstar 2 and have just bought some qr skewers.
i am having trouble fitting them, i think i have found the right place to put them in, but when i screw them in, it wont go any further than that leaveing half a skewer sticking out need desperate help

you do have them the right way round. they are different lengths front and back."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
