Going out for a long ride on christmas morning? Is it to be frowned upon by family members as Christmas morning is to spent waking up with the girlfriend and all that.

Where do you stand on the matter? In for the morning or out for the ride?

yep, as long as the weather is ok i'm out for a spin to work up an appetite for dinner time. Need some time to myself to make the rest of the day bearable with the extended family

I would go out, but with the wet/cold/ice/late night before at this time of year I stick just to my commuting 60miles, any extras rides are too much effort.

If it was a nice clear day I would definitely consider going out on the bike on xmas day, due to the likelihood of less traffic and my dislike of traffic.

might go out for a wobble after dinner, if the weather is ok, but will be too involved in preparation before hand.

+1 when I don't get round to shaving for x days
  • Considering entering a Christmas Day ten miler (would turn into a roughly 25mile spin if I ride there and back aswell).

Definitely in for the morning with the family. I feel bad enough going out on a sunday morning for a few hours, never mind christmas day.

dont celebrate xmas so im working on xmas day
  • Christmas dinner out at the pub is costing £57.50 per head so I,me definately gonna get out on the bike and work up a good apetite
  • Yay spasypaddy - :D thats the attitude. I wish I had an excuse to not be here on christmas

Waste of a perfect riding opportunity if you ask me. Have to put up with the guilt of family and girlfriend saying 'just one day outta the year could you please do something for the family instead of just pleasing yourself. Don't go riding"

Gats - do you cycle every day?

As I'm head chef there's no chance of getting out anywhere.

But I might just put my shiny new bike in a room where i can sneak off and look longingly at it. 8)

  • Ask for some new piece of kit for Christmas and then you have to go out for a cycle on Christmas day to try it out!

...always have a ride on Boxing Day to ride it all off...
...all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...
  • g/f ok'd my Xmas day ride - how cool is that 8)
  • I cycle AND run, but running is more economical in time. I may run two or three miles on Christmas Day, but I also have a race on Boxing Day. The family are supportive enough to come with me (parents) and to cook lunch while I am out (sister and brother in law). The payoff is that I volunteer to drink juice and drive them to a country pub to play pool on 27th.
