two new (used) bikes in two days

Ebay 2003 carrera vanquish (58cm) arrived on Friday, this has been designated as the summer or "good" bike. Needs a little tweaking but overall is as was described.
Winter bike picked up this morning from the LBS. Raleigh Kelloggs Pro Tour (60cm) 12 speed indexed. Rode this home from the shop (17 miles). No computer mounted yet but it felt harder and seemed to take longer than the too small (54cm) 10 speed I had been using...

Checked the gearing and the 10 speed has a 41 inch gear whereas the raleigh has a 47 as its lowest. Think I need to stick to flatter routes for a while.
