Had been gagging to have a pop at this sportif...then the date was changed to the 27th July...im in Gran Canaria...I'll just have to make do with the White Rose experience....

This sportif is really going to be something...for those who have never cycled the NY Moors before I really suggest you enter this sportif...in one single day you will see the very best the area can offer...the scenery is outstanding...the roads are so quiet...and the CLIMBS....it was me who suggested they replace White Horse Bank with the outrageous Boltby Bank...and its not gonna dissapoint!...this will be the first of a serious set of obstacles...and along with the Chimney I reckon its the toughest 1km climb i've ever did....then Blakey Bank...then Limber Hill...and hiittng the Rosedale Chimney at 80 odd seriously hard miles in the legs...wonder how many will get up without walking...I'd guess 25%...too steep to put into words and one of the ultimate 'must do' climbs this island has to offer. I'll hopefully be able to do it 2009...but for those who love a disgustingly hard challenge mixed with staggering scenery then this ones for you...DO NOT underestimate...its on the same difficulty lines as the FWC.

    Enjoy

Are you still going to organise a run in the NY moors Richy?[/quote]

Well i've just booked up for a family holiday down in Flamingoland for the 2nd week in April..(5th-12th).will be hoping to do a serious run with a few lads on Sunday 6th...there is something in the pipeline...but it is fairly serious

I'll defo give you a shout....think a few good other forum lads are up for a NY Moors trumble aswell.....
  • If there are still spaces available in late April, then I'm going to snap one up!

[I have things to do in the interim, and a pre-booked place in a sportive is a distraction I can do without for the next 5 months]
  • Richy,

Keep in touch for the April run, plans are progressing ..............

The full Ryedale Rumble site is now live

so for routes info, news, entry form etc

Sounds good. Hopefully i'll have my new bike by then, so i'll be needing to test it (and my legs) out in advance

I've been asked if the Rumble has only 3 climbs as we show just the three on the plan for the longest route. Truth to tell there are lots of climbs on the route but we really wanted to just showcase the "monument" climbs the ones that hold something of a legendary status for riders who know the roads. There are in fact lots of obnoxious conks along the route to sap the strength ready for the really big climbs.

I must put my Tourist Guide hat on for a moment just to say however that if you have to sit by the roadside feeling totally wrecked then you'll be able to take in some of the most breathtaking countryside to be seen anywhere in the UK (assuming you have the breath to do so)

Only three climbs......... that's quite funny, more like one climb after another after another.

Interesting choice of route from the top of Boltby Bank and down to Old Byland. I have only been down there (oh and there is a big up as well!) once (opposite way to the Rumble) - it resembled a farm track with grass growing down the middle of the road!! Will be a good test.

Richyboy - might be up for the ride in April too depending on how my knee holds up over the winter. Would have dropped you a note but lost your e-mail address :(

Went out for a spin though the moors today. They were looking beautiful as ever and it was much warmer today.

Yes the route after Boltby Bank was a late amendment. Originally we'd planned to take you up through Hawnby but the turn out onto the Chop Gate Road was thought by our Risk Assessors to be a bit iffy with the potential for being rear ended by speeding moto-bikers. The change I don't think has taken anything away from the ride though...it's just as tough!

Cheers Rich, you get them to change the route to make it harder then sod off on your jollies
It's a cracking route if you think 1 in 4 25% hills are steep fit a lower gear.

Agree with you on the junction at Laskill and a good decision. The motorbikes really spoil the stretch from Chop Gate to Helmsley.

Really looking forward to this ride, especially having a go at Boltby.

If you are Tyne & Wear area you did it fine :D

    Hugo
Yep it is one of those roads that motorcyclists have on their tick list, just like the Cat & Fiddle the chop gate road has a time to get down it in
An ex work colleague who rode motorbikes has told me exactly how fast they can get round the Laskill bend / junction, even at 45 in the car there is less than a second of vision of the junction, never mind twice that speed! :?
The alternative route has one of my favourite littleroads that not many people know about, like the little road through Thorpe on the White Rose Classic, I reckon this section will catch a few people out.......

Love the route around Boltby, Just a warning that the decent down to the ford afterwards is very steep and is often gravely. If you like fords you'll love this one
