I am looking to buy my fist road bike. I have found a second hand carrera virtuoso which is in very good condition . Is this a good first road bike?

    Yes, definitely.

I love mine. It's not light, it's very stiff, but it's comfortable.

  • Hi, Just picked up a Carrera Valour, this morning via the Cycle to work scheme. It looks a good buy to me as a first road bike as does the Virtuoso. Only went for the Valour as it seemed to have slightly better spec for £60.00 more, and it is only costing £225 altogehter.

Neither bike seems heavey to me, mind I'm compareing it to my Dawes Mountain bike.

How fast have you gone on your Carrera?
The scent of these arm-pits is aroma finer than prayer

40.4MPH is my max, 50-12 gearing was a bit low and hill not steep enough to get any higher.

A good bike for the money in my opinion. Mine is a 2003 model. Stiff frame. Reasonably light for the money. It is 3lbs lighter than my daughters raliegh airlite 100 which is only 49cm frame, mine being 58cm. If put together well at Halfords then should not be a problem.
I will upgrade to a new bike when I can afford to but will keep this for winter/turbo trainer etc. Have done 5000+ miles on it so far.
Top speed just over 38mph on the flat.
    Still thinking!
