Hello,

My new bike is coming with a Dart 3 set of forks, I know they are crap and I will be changing them as soon as the bike arrives. My other bike, Saracen vex is fitted with a Set of Rock Shox Tora's 302 and they are OK, but a bit stiff, damping is good but small bump response in pretty poor.

Im thinking for replacing the Dart 3s with a set ox Marzocchi Mx comps/ pro LO or Rcok shox recons with MC damening.

Max price is about £180 - £190, also will need to be from chain Reactions.
Commuter: Saracen Vex '03 (Full XT drivetrain, Rockshox Tora 302 80mm, Conti Touring Plus..etc)

MTB Hardtail: Orbea Satellite - Team Colours '08 (Full XTR drivetrain, Reba Teams, XC717s - Hope Pro II, Fire XC Pro 2.1...etc).

well if you go for the Marz. you may need a brake adpaotor and maybe a new disc. (depends on the year as they are now post mount and it depends on your brakes)

TBH why change now? why not spend 200 on top of the cost of the bike and get a better bike?

    Also what bike and travel?

    Hey Nick,

The Darts are fitted with post mount anyways, so thats ok, the darts are 100mm travel aswel, the bike ive brought is a Orbea Satalite, nice frame Fourmla brakes, deore shifters, xt mechs...etc nice kit, just the forks that I would change, ill sell the darts on aswel to someone sao ill make a few £££ on them. The Orbea I test rode was soo nice to ride and controled so well, thats why I have gone for it, im just unsure about the forks, im thikning a nice set of 'Zocchis might be nicer, just to finnish the bike off.

I'd have a Recon. More adjustable, lighter, and stiffer.

    Ok, the Satellite is £619 - add £200 for forks, that's £819.

If you wait a bit, can you rustle up £126?

I don't know much about Oreba bikes but if I was in your boat and I wanted an Oreba, I'd be trying to figure out if I can get the Enigma...

You're getting what looks to be a better frame and and of course, a much, much better fork than even the ones you were going to upgrade to...

Just a thought - upgrading is fun and often necessary but buying a new bike only to throw bits a way straight away is a mugs game!

Thanks for the replys, the bike is ordered now anyways, the rest of the bike is perfect for me and I will only be changing the fork, ive ridden a MX comp, may have been '05 or '06 and it was butter smooth and controled and the Toras I have are pretty pants at small bump response, hence why im asking between the Recons and MXs, The Recons seen to be a similar design to the Toar's and are deff more beafy than the Mxs.

    Its hard choice I think.

well the internals of the recons are the same as one of the toras. for the same level.

so the recon race will feel the same as a tora 318.

the only differences ar the bells an whistles some of the controls are are better made on the recons.

Also both the darts and the recons have ths same disc mount IS so a straight swap. for the MX it might be a remove adapter and bolt straight on or in might need a new adapter. it depends on disc size.

Must be the OEM ones only then. as there is no mention of it on their webby.

infact there is only two part numbers and that is just for a different paint finish.
    (29ers excepted).
