anyone know anything about the surly pacer?

i am looking to buy a new steel frame road bike for heavy london commuting and 100+ mile rides at weekend. is the Surly pacer anygood. Looking to build up with veloce gruppo and ventos or ambrosio wheels. Any ideas? What would be a better frame for similar money (£300 ish)?

    £300 for the bike or the frame only? I hope that's for the bike.
    Surly is popular as a cheap commuter throwaround stateside, but they aren't anything special. The Ribble winter bike looks good value around the £300 mark.
