Hello there everyone,

Just thought Id ask you ppl for some advice with my bike.

Basically it is a DMR custom build trials bike, I have had it for 4 or so years and now want to make it into more of a MTB.

I dont do MTB competition I just want to ride cliffpaths and road etc.

I have attached a picture of the bike below.

I have taken it to a bike shop and they werent very helpful, they told me the cheapest way would be to upgrade the gears by buying a larger chainring, but he said he didnt have one that fit because the parts on my bike are an old style.

Can anyone with experience tell me from the picture, what parts I would need and which that would fit.

Thanks very much.

You could stick a lot of XC like equipment on, but I dont think it will make a very good one - its geometry is set for trials. The frame size is very low so youd need an extremely long seatpost. Sus forks would help, as would a front triple chainset, mech and shifter (I can see a cable stop for the mech). brakes are fine.

Im not looking at making it very good mtb, If you read I just want it for road use etc, because atm it is a bi4tch to get to places on, very slow.

Would it be best to just get larger chainring, if so which one will fit as the shop told me the stuff is old on my bike.

    Other wise what other things.

What chainset do you have, and do you know the bolt circle diameter?

The chainring is a branded "Afterburners" and is 22tooth.

The cranks are FSA but not sure of the model number.

Im not sure the bolt circle diameter, what/where exaclty is it?

is the frame a side kick?

80 -100mm fork 38T chain wheel (or a full set of 3 rings) might even have disc mounts.

have a look at some builds on DMR's webby.

    Yes it is a sidekick,

I have ordered some rockshox tora forks already.

    So for better speed etc, what chainring do I need because the shop told me its a specific one because my components are really old;
