Did a bit of digging, and found that the Euro/uk version is differently specced:

Looking at the above, I have to say its very poorly specced for the money. I am not even sure that the fork is damped, and it has a lowly 8spd drivetrain and poor crankset. nice frame, but there are better frames at this price too.
Compare it to the Spesh Rockhopper disc for 20 quid more, and you see you are getting a whole lot more bike: 9spd drivetrain, M4 frame, octalink cranks, damped adjustable Tora forks.0 -
Not specifically one of those but ride a marin and they are good bikes.
However the components differ between here and the states so you should look on the UK site which is here: (assuming you are in the UK that is)

May pay to look around though - you can get better specced 2007 bikes for that kind of money!0 -

Sorry SS - just saw your post - wasn't copying you matey!0 -
Hehe!
marins above 700 quid are so SO much better specced for the money!0 -
Cheers for the info you 2 .
My local bike shop sell scott, marin and a couple of other makes (dodgy memory here lol) but they don't sell specialized , the only place near to me that do is leisure lakes in southport.
Its quite a way if i need work doing on the bike ( i am spanner blind  )
Ohhh i don't know what to do.
Anyone had any dealings with Winstanleys bikes in Wigan? i ask coz they have a deal on the Konda Kikapu deluxe for a little more than the Marin, but i have to be sure that i'd be getting my moneys worth with regards to wattanty work and the like where the bike shop very close to me are poop hot on.
Sorry for all the questions, i am out on my own here with no one i know personally to help me out.
Many thanks Caz x0 -
The Kikapu is a fuller susser isnt it? Is it this one?

Nice looking bike. but will be heavier than a hardtail. Testing is certainly important, youre 6ft 2 arent you?!0 -
I'm riding a halfords special at the mo  ..thats a heavy bugger...doesn't like hills, or maybe its me lol0
-
Yup i am 6ft 2" but built like a whippet...10 stone wet thru0
-
Merlin Cycles maybe worth a look too - some astonishing deals at the minute.
Also the new Boardman bikes from Halfords.0 -
Ahhh, forgot about Merlin cycles...not many of those about as well..a bit of a rarity...i like that0
-
Remember to budget for a ladies saddle, and enquire about softer springs for forks (or get an air fork!).0
-
All noted down in my little notebook ..Might even pop over tomorrow to mave a look at them.
Thanks for all this top info0 -
"10 stone wet thru"
I was until I hit 25... ;-)0 -
I'm 29 now and still no sign of middle age spread...no saddlebags on this gal lol.0
-
Lol, I'm 29 too - post ride pints to blame hehe. And pies.0
-
I just can't put weight on...maybe i'll make an XC racing snake one day..i'm skinny enough0
-
I was like a rake for ages, 6ft, 10stone, never changed right until I was about 24. Then I starting riding less... I guess that was it, was still fueling up the same! As Billy Connolly said - eat less, move more lol.0

Don't forget there's a leisure lakes in Bury as well, that's possibly closer to you than Southport.
Think Winstanleys have a had a bit of a bashing on this forum.

I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
Ahhh i only thought leisure lakes bikes was at Southport  ....me a bit thick lol
Thanks xx0 -
The one in Bury has a big area dedicated to Spesh bikes. It's a bit weird to find as it's on the first floor above an Iceland supermarket. :?It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
