Cateye EL530 light problem

I have one of these and although I am happy with the light in general, I am a bit perturbed that it seems to randomly swich itself off.

Sometimes it will switch straight back on, others it will flicker on and off and still others it will switch off and won't switch back on again.

Considering I am doing training rides on unlit roads at night and don't have a back up, I am a bit uncomfortable about this.

Do I need to replace it (can't remember where I bought it from), live with it and buy a back up or is there something specific I can do to fix it?

Try cleaning the battery connections on both the light and the battery terminals. Very fine wet or dry paper is good. If that doesn't work it's possible the batteries are being dislodged when you hit a bump, try packing them with a bit of foam, rolled up paper or something like that.

I always take a Petzl Tikka XP with a shoelace wrapped around it. It's a back up light and roadside emergency light. The shoelace is for tying the headstrap on at the front of the helmet.

I had this problem with mine too. Generally speaking, I can't say I rate the build quality of Cateye lights.

Everything Steve I says, plus if your batteries are loose a bit of silver foil between the terminal and the battery can help.

    I'll give it a try
