As above really. I've read both things about them but I really fancy one. Anyone used one care to comment?

My friend thinks they are awsome and that they really build up wrist, etc but i can't seem to get the hang of it.
  • what exactly are you talking about? joz333 remark makes me wonder?

http://www.maverickbike.com/main/do/pro ... oductID/44 those? or those wrist things?

I think the seatpost is a great item but expensive. I would use it loads. probably every 500m actually...

Sorry, is there something else called a speedball? I meant the seatpost. There are some places (Chicksands for example) where it would be worth its weight in gold but I've heard they don't like UK muck.

  • A guy I know used one in the Mega avalanche race. The general concensus is that it is supremely useful in a race that involves both long technical decents and also a fair amount of climbing. That bloke in question was very relieved that it didn't break on the way down.
I wouldn't buy one for normal riding though, as they are very expensive and the reliability record isn't too good.
If I was going to take part in the mega? Yes.
Also, the bar mounted operation is apparently better than the lever.
  • I'd wait a bit for long term tests on the crank bros one

Haven't Crank Bros just bought the rights to it and so won't it just be the same peice of kit assembled in someone else's factory?

    lol sorry
  • I know two people that have them. One has never worked properly since he bought it so took it off, the other swears by it and loves it.

I think you need to be prepared to do a bit of fettling and you have to pump them up to the correct pressure to work if I heard it right.

One thinks it's shocking, the other great - that pretty much sums up what I've heard :?

I've been thinking about one of these for a while (I'm always fiddling with the TALAS adjustement on my forks) so I am watching this thread carefully.

Seen the version with remote lock out on Ebay for £125 + £ 3 PP (New), American seller, or Noah's Ark are doing them for £ 139.99 + £2 PP without the remote (also on Ebay).

The American seller has prices listed in sterling, could be worth a punt at that price (even with import duty etc).

Had a look at the Garvity Dropper from your link, seems to do the job but I've got to say the speedball looks way better, and as this would be a luxury purchase for me I think I'd save up and have form and function :D .
