I am thinking of buying the elite version as my current set are dying/have died. Anyone used them. Another option is hope 2 on DT 5.1 or 819 rims. I already have an old set on bonty wheels which I still use on another bike and as I am thinking of going tubeless - they seem simple to try with as all you need is slime.

Any advice gratefully received

I have ProIIs in 819s with DT comp spokes and I am very impressed. Have ridden them tubeless in the Alps, Peaks and various man made trails and they are still true despite my 100kg size.

To go tubeless, you just need tubless tyres - no sealant - although I do use sealant for auto puncture repair.

Thats good to know re. strength. I will be using them mainly for enthusiastic xc in the 7 stanes. What sort of weight do they build up to and can they take a 2.3 tyre easy?

  • I'd look at the stans rims, the new arch looks to fit the bill nicely.

They build up to about 1800g for the pair and I run them with Maxxis 2.35s (see Reign linky at bottom) and a cup of Stans sealant for puncture protection. Tyres weigh 805g each (measured weight).

Sounds good, the only thing putting me off the mavics is the need to use UST specific tyres. I think the Bontrager ones can use any tire + sealant. Having said that I like the look of the Hope hubs - the noise I am less sure of!

You can run any combination you want with 819s:

    UST tyres on their own
    UST tyres with sealant
    Normal tyres with sealant
UST tyres with a tube (get you home if you rip one)
Normal tyres with a tube (if you decide the whole tubeless thing's not for you)
