Hi, what would a 26" hardtail bike with some downhill triple clamp forks with about 7" / 170mm of travel be like??

Depends on the which frame, could be anything from awesome to unrideable depending.

My first guess would be unwieldy.

Again depending on the frame (and the forks), this could also be dangerous for the life of the frame - you could jack all the angles and put strain where the frame isn't designed to take it.

Then again, it could be the best thing since...
  • too much 5" would be enough i think for a hardtail 6" max. single crown too. we're not in the late 90's now.
  • Depends on the bike, some of the norcos, coves and mythic bikes are warranted for huge (up to 200mm) triple clamp forks iirc. BUT if you're needing this, you should probably use a FS bike!
