Has anyone got the new Tiagra shifters? I've only seen them on the internet and am tempted by the new shape of the shifters - which seems to be akin to the new 105s and ultegra design. I'd go for the new 105 (which I have tried) but don't want to switch yet to 10-speed set up - hence thinking Tiagra.

I tried my LBS yesterday and the owner was quite scathing on the old Tiagra - reckoned Sora were better - in terms of quality and reliability, but he hasn't yet got the new Tiagra in, so couldn't comment on them.

I've seen a positive write up on this web-site - in the product tests - but would be interested to hear from anyone who's actually using them.

I don't race, so am only looking at it in terms of leisure cycling.

I bet he had loads of Sora shifters in though.
I use the old Tiagra stuff on one of my bikes and have had no reliability problems.

I'm using the new Tiagra on my winter bike and they're absolutely fine, very smooth and no problems at all so far. They've got a fairly high-quality feel for the money, although I'm more used to campag so can't say how they compare to other shimano. The only thing I don't like about them is the stupid indicator thingies on the top, I never look at them and the transparent window just gets scratched if you turn the bike over.

    Hi Gragi

Just bought the new TIAGRA 4500 shifters to replace my old knackered Tiagras after I saw them in a bike shop out in San Francisco last week.

They looked and felt great but the price was extortionate! I think the Yen is very strong against the dollar making Shimano kit quite pricey in the US.
Anyway I ordered them from Chain Reaction for £87 and fitted them on Saturday on my return.

Went for a (very wet) ride yesterday and first impressions are that they are at least as positive as our Ultregra equipped bikes.

I am cycling Wrynose/Hardnott/Newlands/Winlatter this weekend so I should have a better idea after that.

To be honest, for £87, I think they are a bargain.

If you want any further info, let me know.

Been using them for 8 months. They are very slick and positive, can't fault them at all, better than the old version and better than 9 speed 105s. Unless you want 10 speed, these will do everything you ask of them.

Fantastic - many thanks for the quick and very positive replies.
I think I know what I'll be getting for Christmas :D
Although from Santa Claus rather than my LBS...
