    Hi

I have the previous setup of 2.5W/10W, and have been very pleased with them.

They are used most mornings when I get in a quick ride before work. Luckily I am able to get out of town, and I find the 2.5W beam adequate for up to 15mph/22kph in complete darkness (except in wet of course). The battery lasts for the working week..

Downside (on my old model) - no indicator of battery state / no automatic switch off when charging / need to tighten the securing bolts 2/3 times per winter / up to ten hours to recharge fully.

However, they are very good value for the money, and are still going strong after three winters.

    Hope this helps

Thanks Pete for your reply,it appears that most people who are unhappy with them have serious issues with the battery, in your case all is well. Will probably buy them now anyway, thanks again Ademort

    Hi Ademort

    No battery problem at all.

By the way, they seem to cost around £45/50GBP delivered in UK:

  • I use them and find the light excellent - fine for training at speed on pitch black rural roads at this time of year. This is the 2nd winter of using them - I don't find the battery lasts quite as long as advertised but that's no big deal - I just need to remember to charge up a little more often.

I think they are great value for the money though I will change to something smaller / neater (and sadly more expensive) next winter.
  • I've been using a set since the clocks went back this year. Quite pleased with them, much more powerful than anything I've used before!

Battery tends to last me about a week, although this may decrease as I now feel the need to use them on the way into work now... This is using the 5w alone for about 30 minutes of my journey, with the remaining 15 minutes using both together, for added visibility on busy roads.

For the money, they seem good value, although there is a post in the off-road forum section about a compact AA battery light that is cheaper and can compete with the output of £100+ lights... allegedly! Definitely worth a look (thread was active is past week).

I;m very impressed by all the feedback, they do sound great vfm. Strange about the battery problem, might help if we knew how many sets of these lights have been sold, i suppose there will always be a small percentage that do not last as long as they should, thanks to all, my minds made up,will buy them. I hate to be a naysayer (or do I) I bought some for commuting a couple of years ago and

    - The connectors between the battery and the lights is unreliable (think the lights are on? Think again..) ( no indicator light)
    - The connector between the battery and the charger is unreliable. Thiink you´re charging the battery? Maybe not (no indicator light anywhere)
    - The casing is OK but I´ve stripped the threads on one because I rewired.

Excellent value but electrically very poorly implemented. I commute under street lights and I´d be tempted with something more robust and not so bright for daily use.

I was interested in these lights, chap at my local cycle club bought some and i was keen to see them.

Now he has had problems, they turn off every now and again when he goes over lumpy roads, and they arn't as bright as the £30 set of smart lights im using, we where cycling next to each other and i could see more on my side that his :S.... the battery may be longer i don't know, but i won't be buying a set :S

Simple scientific approach to solving this one. If its pitch black up ahead and you can't see a bloody thing, your lights are off. If you can see where you're going .... voila!

I have a set - brilliant. Use for night riding on the road on pitch black lanes and they are superb. Various articles say you can beef them up more with better bulbs but not tried that yet.

  • I recently purchased some from wiggle but had to send them back because I found the battery did not hold charge. Even after 10 hours charging the lights the very dim. I feel I got what I paid for. Not for me I'm afraid.

I had a set of these a couple of years ago : thought they'd be ideal slight upgrade from the Smart SLA lights I'd previously used as NiMH battery (lighter) and nicer looking lights but after a winter's use I found the reliability to be insufficient.
Connectors to the lights from the battery would not stay put and then even when inserted correctly I wasn't always getting the lights coming on despite a full battery charge - when faced with 18 miles of dark ride home from work with no lights I couldn;t keep using them so I had to stick them in the cupboard. Bike shop I got them from had also said that they experienced a number fo returns after my initial set just stopped working totally and were replaced.
Light output was ok for dark roads but above 20mph or so on unlit roads you are reaching their limits.
Now got L & M Solo Logic MVs which are a bit better in terms of light output but they've only had a couple of months use so longer term reliability is not yet an issue.
Personally, for cheap lights probably the Smart 10/10W are the best but I've had a number of sets of them and 1 - 2 winters use of the most I get from them before reflector coating peels off / connectors / switches fail etc but they are cheap.

I purchased these last winter, the original battery didn't hold a charge and Ribble replaced it. Since had no problems at all with the new battery. Used 5 days a week in all weathers and still working fine...
  • I had a set a couple of winters ago . I mainly used the 5W on my commute but would switch on the additional 10W for a dark downhill stretch . After three or months , when I came to switch on the 10w for this stretch , both lights would go OFF instead of on and would only come on after an amount of fiddling . Not good on a dark descent ! I took them back to the shop and got a refund . The shop then told me that they'd had quite a few other sets returned for similar faults . Wouldn't recommend them myself .
