cnat decide here, going on a commencal 5.5 for XC/ FR all mountain use
Is there still problems in leakage from negative air on the Air models?
What are the main ride characterstic differences between the 2? - guess the coil is plusher on small bumps, but what about when the going gets pretty rough, with some fair size drops mixed in???
How many different Air models are there and can you pick and choose what options you have on - U turn, poplock etc
I'll prob just go for lockout (not bar mounted) with the standard rebound and compression if possible to keep it simple?
cheers

You do hear isolated cases of negative air leaks - but more cases of people not inflating the forks properly!
The coil pike is very plush, one of the plushest forks I have ever ridden. Certainly plusher than my air sprung Toras. But with Dual Air you can adjust the initial part of the stroke, increasing sensitivity over smaller hits. Plus you have the motion control damper to play with. Air Uturn adjusts the travel from 110-140mm.
The fork as standard comes with motion control (adjustable low speed compression damping, rebound, and floodgate blowoff - this blowoff is external adjustable on higher numbered models. The comp damping on full locks the fork), with the option of a bar mounted poploc. However to adjust the compression damping with poploc, you must get 'poploc adjust', otherwise its on/off.
Many people like the coil version as its plusher, and has more travel adjust, but the air models allow you to tailor the spring rate exactly to your weight, and are lighter.0 -

Cheers SS, does the above apply to both Coil and Air? With the coil does it come with higher weight springs to adjust - or is it a case of ordering in?
Do the coils resiste bottoming out on huts as well as the Air if u know?
Also, there only seems 1 model listed online for the 454 air - do you have to ring up to order specific poplock remote requirements? nice 10 -
The fork as standard comes with the medium weight red spring - for riders of 10st to 11.5st. Firm and X firm are available, but many find the standard spring to be quite hard anyway. Both coil and air have the MC damper, its contained in the other leg.
As for options, you can see them all at the RS website - will depend what the shop stocks too! All are available to order though Fisher Outdoor.0
