Riser bars and bar ends?

I have a mate who hadn't ridden for years, since the rigid, flat bar days.
I persuaded him to buy a new bike when I got mine earlier this year, and now he's on about getting bar ends to go on his riser, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the angles on riser bars negate bar ends??

There's nothing stopping him from doing it admittedly, but is it needed?

Since dumping flatties I've not used bar ends, mainly cause of looks, just doesn't look right.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I tried them, just didn't have the same feel on the risers.

Personal preference really, got a mate who loves his for climbing but he rarely ventures off road or on the bike at all at the moment!

I've got risers and bar ends quite often nice just to have the extra hand position especially if your on a long ride as a negative point it does seem easier to pull the front wheel off the ground on a steep climb than it used to with flats and bar ends but that could equally be down to my new bike having a slightly shorter wheelbase

I have risers and bar ends - suit me fine, give more leverage, and couldn't do without the option of another hand poition.

Couldn't face being stuck with my hands in the same position for a 4 hour ride :?

Mine are shiny and carbon - mmmm shiny

I've got risers and Ergon R1M grips/bar ends, grips are incredibly comfy and the bar ends are great for climbing..

Think bar ends are a bit marmite nowadays, you either like them or you don't...
